Easy DIY Tricks for Glowy Beautiful Skin at Home!

written by Payal Thaker

Whether you’re living the busy glam lifestyle of New York or you’re somewhere in India running errands, looking after your family and establishing your career…we all need a quick fix when it comes to skincare. We’re all looking for that one product or DIY quick fix that will finally overcome all our skin problems.

Today I’m gonna share with you girls some of my personal remedies and techniques for beautiful skin, which I’ve been using for a while and has been working very effectively for me.

I’m not blessed with naturally beautiful skin. So for that, I spend a lot of time on my skincare routine and never take it for granted. Thankfully by now I’ve found what works best for my skin, and I’m happy to share it with you all. 🙂

Lets Get Started!

1. Steam: This trick was a favorite of mine when I was working as a flight attendant. My schedule used to be so busy and I didn’t have enough time for facials and cleanups. For times when your skin feels tired and lifeless, this technique will be your friend:

Take a 2 minute facial steam – Boil a pot of water, add a few drops of tea tree oil along with a little bit of your night cream. Cover your head with a towel and position your face above the steaming water. This will trap the steam and keep it hovering around your face, loosening your pores and getting inside. Steam will help dissolve all the dirt, pollution, makeup, and dead skin. Clean it with a the cotton pad and splash some cold water on your face, follow with your favorite moisturizer.

Doing this for 2 minutes every 15-20 days will leave your skin deep cleaned and beautiful. I promise!

2. I take multiple supplements regularly, and everyone should too in this day and age. One of the most important supplement I take is Vitamin E. Taking a Vitamin E supplement everyday is key for strong immunity and healthy skin/eyes. I also like using the oil from the capsule on my face at least once a week. Break one capsule and mix that oil with your face lotion. Massage it onto your face and neck for 5 mins in a circular motion. Massaging your facial skin for a few mins every once in a while can literally stop you from aging. I’ve read tons of articles and seen tons of videos on skin massaging, and believe me, it works! Using Vitamin E oil to massage will hydrate your skin, soothe sunburns, diminish scars and blemishes, and help keep your skin looking young and healthy for a longer period of time.

3. Make Ice cubes of your favorite fruit or vegetable juices, wrap them in a thin towel, and rub it all over your face. I usually make ice cubes out of Orange juice or Potato juice and rub it all over my face and neck. Ice cubes refresh your facial skin; you get smoother skin and it makes your pores disappear. Orange juice and potato juice can be of great relief for bad breakouts and blemishes that are left behind on your skin. Doing this can help your skin heal faster and look smoother.

Caution: Applying direct ice cubes on your skin can cause delicate capillaries to break, so please remember to wrap it in a wash cloth or paper towel, and then apply on your skin. Also one ice cube is enough for one application. Don’t overdo it.

4. Start your day with hot water. I know this sounds old, boring, and completely unattainable. But once you see the results for yourself I promise you’ll never quit this habit! I’ve started drinking lukewarm water every morning before I eat anything. It not only helps my skin to look beautiful, but it’s very soothing for my throat, I feel fresh, and also my digestive system is on track. Hot water every morning is the inexpensive luxury treatment for your body overall, which will do wonders over the years. It cleanses your system and throws out all the toxins that your body has been storing each day. Remember, maintaining beautiful skin is not only an outside job. 🙂

5. Don’t rub so hard!! So above we talked about all those things you can do to achieve beautiful skin over time. Lastly, I’ll talk about the most important thing that you shouldn’t do with your face. So there are many small little things we might do unknowingly which can damage our skin deeply and make you look older in your 20s. And many don’t realize it until it’s too late!

First, you have to understand that no matter how oily or acne-prone your skin is, moisturizing is always better than over-drying your skin. One would think that using those harsh grainy scrubs will give you beautiful skin, but in fact it can damage your skin very badly. It can break your blood vessels and leave scars behind, make your skin feel dry, wrinkled, and patchy.

So, go for light easy scrubs and use them light handedly, not more than 20 seconds, and wash it with cold water. Don’t pull or rub your skin when removing eye or face makeup. Be very gentle and start by applying oil and massage your face and under eye areas. This way all your makeup will dissolve and then you can remove it easily with cotton pads. Massaging for a couple minutes every day will improve blood circulation on your face, and you will probably look younger compared to those who don’t massage their face regularly. Remember! Never tug or pull on your skin when removing makeup, exfoliating, or washing your face.

  14. apo

I am 17 and I have “DRY” skin. I have had clear skin since the past 16 years but suddenly, I’ve got acne. It isn’t stopping at all. Please help. I want my clear skin back. If you’ll be mentioning any of your posts as a solution, please add the link. Waiting to hear your reply about the solution

    • YourBeautyPal

HI Apo, What I understand is that you are going through the teenage acne issue and the best advice I can give you is to visit a good dermatologist. One trip to your dermatologist will cure all your acne problems that you are going through. You are only 17 years old and I wouldn’t recommend you to try too many things on your face as it will make your skin extremely sensitive for rest of your life. Just visit your dermatologist and use the prescription he/she suggests and along with that remember always to cleanse your face thoroughly every night and keep your skin moisturized at all time. Lastly, don’t forget to wear a good sunscreen or else you will be left with open pores and scars. I hope this helps. For further discussion you can always write to me on my email and I will be happy to help you out.

  15. apo

    What is your email id?

Any new thing you try on your face you need to give it sometime to notice any results. Also, no one cream or moisturizer will instantly give you good results. Proper skincare is essential along with some extra maintainence. Checkout my skincare routine post and follow it regularly, I’m sure you will notice the difference. http://www.yourbeautypal.com/2014/02/18/3-things/

Massage your under eyes with unfiltered sweet almond oil at Night. Make sure you apply your sunscreen under your eyes as well. Don’t rub or tug your eye area, it’s very delicate. For removing makeup or kajals use oil massage and wipe it off with cotton pads. Also, once a day using left over green tea bags on your eyes can make a lot of difference. Just after you have a green tea, save the tea bag and put it in a refrigerator. Use it for your eyes after few hours.

  32. Arpita

hey payal..i just went through your blog..i lovedd it 🙂 one advice from u..
i have my school farewell coming up..what kind of makeup should i wear..?

    • YourBeautyPal

Hi Arpita, For your school farewell i would suggest you wear a very simple yet beautiful makeup.
It’s a day event so make sure you apply some primer on your face before putting any makeup on, use the Maybelline color tattoo bad to the bronze shade just on your eyelids with the help of your finger. Now, apply your brown eyeliner pencil roughly on your upper lashline and smudge it for very natural and subtle look. for your face apply your foundation and also use a lighter concealer under your eyes for more awake look. finish it off with some pink blush on the apples of your cheek and a matte pink lip color.
you can try this look as well : http://www.yourbeautypal.com/2014/03/15/10minute-look/

    • YourBeautyPal

Hi Suganiya, I would love to help you but you need to understand nothing happens in one day and you’ll have to follow a proper skin care routine without fail to notice difference in your skin.
check out this post and follow it religiously, I promise your skin will improve. http://www.yourbeautypal.com/2014/02/18/3-things/

  35. Pooja

Thanks a lot payal 🙂 then how i can gain weight and maintain my hair styl

    • YourBeautyPal

Pooja, I don’t think you should worry about gaining weight. As long as you’re healthy and not suffering from any malnutrition problem you’re good. It’s always better to be thin than over weight. Just eat healthy and make sure your immune system is good and you’re not falling sick all the times.
For your hair style just look for a hairspray which says ” voluminous spray for touchable hair” and use it every time you need to maintain your hairstyle.

  36. c.suganiya

    • YourBeautyPal

Definitely there’s a way if you do what I say. 🙂
first of all make sure you get into a proper skincare routine. Use scrub at-least twice a week and mask at least once a week to get rid of dead skin off your face. Scrub your body three times a week and apply a body lotion right after your shower. Never ever leave the house without applying a sunscreen! that’s a must if you want glowing beautiful skin.
check out this post for your skincare routine: http://www.yourbeautypal.com/2014/02/18/3-things/

you must follow this for long lasting healthy skin.

  38. ekta

    thanks a lottt…:)

  39. Simran

I’m in my mid 17. n my skin is bit oily. what is d best to have a simple cleanup at home in just 5 to 10 mins..?

    • YourBeautyPal

      Hi Simran,

The best way is using scrub atleast twice a week and apply mask atleast once a week. Also, always follow it with an ice cube so your pores remain tight and you don’t break out.

  40. Pooja biswal

Hy payal..i am just 18 years old and have dark circles..can u plz suggest me with something to get rid of this.. Also is that a good way to clean our face with gulab jal in every season?

    • YourBeautyPal

Yes, gulab jal is a good way to cleanse your face if the one you’re using is a pure gulab jal without any added fragrance or preservatives. For your dark circles try the unfiltered sweet almond oil around your eyes and please make sure you never ever rub your under eyes with your fingers, cloth, napkin whatever. My sister is having a small problem just because she keeps rubbing her under eyes like she rubs her face.

  41. Pooja biswal

Thanks payal :-)..and which brand or type do u suggest me for almond oil and gulab jal?..

    • YourBeautyPal

Try the aloe veda distil sweet alnond oil. You can get it from snapdeal/flipkart.

  42. Sneha

Hy mam.. My lips are dark and specially my upper lip is more dark..plz suggest me with something ..

    • YourBeautyPal

Scrub your lips and dark areas around your lips with the mixture of lemon juice and sugar atleast three times a week. Apply sunscreen on your lips during the daytime.

  43. tanushree

hey can you please tell me how can i get rid of my dark circles naturally and quickly (maybe?).??

    • YourBeautyPal

There’s nothing called instant and quick when it comes to skincare. Especially if you want it to disappear naturally you’ll have to have patience and a good skincare routine. 🙂
Try applying sweet almond oil under your eyes every night and make sure you don’t pull, tug or rub your under eyes ever!! Also dab a little sunscreen under your eyes during the daytime.

  44. tanushree

i would also love to know how i could just do away with my blackheads?!

  45. diya

Whenever I get out of my home during the day I apply sunscreen but after an hour or two,my face gets darkened which looks very bad and morever I have a hell lot of sweating from my face.. Can you plz help me?

    • YourBeautyPal

Try applying an ice cube every morning before applying any moisturizer or sunscreen on your face. Ice will close your open skin pores and will prevent from excessive sweating. Also if you can apply matte finish sunscreen moisturizer or sunscreen it will help a lot.

  46. shruti.
